Shots fired investigation leads to arrest

A shots fired investigation Thursday night on Denzil Drive led to an arrest.

Witnesses told Hopkinsville police that two silver vehicles and a dark car fled the scene at a high rate of speed after shots were fired in the area of Denzil Drive and officers found a vehicle matching the description in the area of Walnut Street and Morningside Drive.

The owner of the automobile, 21-year old Akim Barry of Hopkinsville, reportedly acknowledged he fired a handgun across a parking lot at other unknown individuals who he said shot at him first.

Barry reportedly said at first that he had tossed his gun after fleeing the Denzil Drive scene, but later said he handed it off to someone else.

Barry is charged with two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and tampering with evidence.

There were no reports of any injuries in the incident.
