The United Way of the Pennyrile was recently presented with a check totaling $13,250 from the proceeds of the 2021 Hoptown Half Marathon and 5K.
According to a news release, During the 2021 race, local organizations participated in the water station spirit competition. Taking home first place and receiving $500 was Planters Bank. Hopkinsville Kiwanis Club placed second and received $250. There was a two-way tie between Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority and Memorial Baptist Church.
United Way Executive Director Betsy Bond says, “We are extremely grateful to the Hoptown Half Marathon and 5K for choosing the United Way as the beneficiary of this year’s race proceeds. We also thank Planters Bank and Jennie Stuart Health for being title sponsors of the race for their generosity and their commitment to making a difference in our community. We also appreciate the work of Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation for making the race happen.”
The 4th Annual Hoptown Half Marathon will take place in downtown Hopkinsville on Saturday, October 22 in 2022 and registration is now open for the race. The half marathon costs $59 to register and the 5K is $35. Funds raised during next year’s race will benefit the Military Affairs Committee.
