Gentry arraigned on tampering charge in Christian Circuit Court

James Gentry, who was recently sentenced to life in prison for the killing of Keith Joey Hayes, appeared in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday to be arraigned on a tampering with a prisoner monitoring device charge.

Judge Andrew Self arraigned him on the tampering charge Wednesday, accepted a not-guilty plea on his behalf, and set a pretrial hearing for January 12.

Gentry was out on bond in July when he cut off his ankle monitor and fled Hopkinsville while his trial was ongoing in Trigg County for the November 27, 2018, killing Hayes. He was ultimately found guilty of both murder and robbery in his absence, and he was later located in San Diego County, California and extradited back to Trigg County, where he was sentenced to life in prison without parole eligibility for 25 years.
