There have been countless stories of tragedy and heartbreak since tornadoes devastated western Kentucky over the weekend, but Todd County Dispatch Director Tammy Dailey has a story of survival—one that could be considered a miracle.
There was only one 911 dispatcher on duty early Saturday morning and Dailey was rushing to provide additional support when a tornado warning was issued for Todd County. She was on the phone with her daughter and thought she had plenty of time to make it there safely when she drove into the tornado.
After seconds of terror that seemed to last much longer, Dailey’s car was set down in ditch.
Dailey says she was sure she was going to die during the incident.
Miraculously, Dailey was not injured, her car’s airbags didn’t deploy and the vehicle didn’t have any significant damage—despite it being dropped about one-third of a mile from where it started.
A deputy took Dailey the rest of the way to the 911 center and she says she now has a new perspective when a panicked caller has a hard time giving information in calls for help.
Dailey sent her thoughts and prayers to those in Todd County and elsewhere who lost their homes and especially those in western Kentucky who lost loved ones to the tornadoes.
