Daniel “Nick” Nicholson, a man who was involved in emergency preparedness and response in countless ways in Christian County over the last 15 years, died Friday following a battle with COVID-19 at the age of 64.
Nicholson was the founder of the Pennyrile Citizens Corps Council associated with PADD that brought together law enforcement, emergency management, elected officials, media and citizens from the nine-county region to discuss and prepare for disasters.
A veteran of the U.S. Army Special Forces, he was the coordinator for the local Community Emergency Response Team program that sent volunteers to check on neighbors and clean up debris following tornados and ice storms.
Nicholson organized and helped organize neighborhood watch programs in Christian and Todd counties and he was always willing to help former Christian County Emergency Management Director Matt Snorton and Randy Graham, who currently holds that position, with anything they would need.
Nicholson said in 2018 that it was his goal to get as many families as possible prepared for disasters, so they’d be prepared with supplies and know what to do in an emergency to stay safe and healthy.
Nicholson also spent time as a special deputy with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office and helped at events such as the Western Kentucky State Fair and Kelly Little Green Men Days.
