Emergency Management Director Randy Graham says the tornado that affected 63 homes in Christian County early Saturday morning was at least an upper-end EF2.
A team from the National Weather Service in Nashville assisted the Paducah office and conducted the survey on the local twister Monday, with Graham saying the beginning of the damage path already indicted it was a strong EF2—which would indicate winds of 125 mph.
As previously reported, 63 homes were affected in some way and 14 homes were destroyed, and Graham says 31 farm locations and five businesses were also impacted.
Graham and Judge-Executive Steve Tribble are anticipating a federal disaster declaration for Christian County, which would free additional resources.
In other action, Animal Shelter Director Irene Grace said the shelter took in 270 cats and dogs last month and found homes for 236.
