Gov. announces launch of relief, toy drive initiatives for western Ky.

While Kentucky is still reeling for devastating tornados from over the weekend, Governor Andy Beshear took time to give an update on COVID in the state Monday afternoon.

Governor Beshear says we can’t forget that the pandemic is still ongoing, even in the midst of the heartbreak caused by the tornados that hit the state.  He reported that there were 2,308 new cases reported Saturday, along with 55 deaths, then Sunday had 989 cases, with 37 deaths, and then Monday gained 1,089 COVID cases, along with 28 deaths.

The positivity rate dropped again, down to 8.78 percent. In some good news, the governor says they saw an uptick in people getting vaccinated, including those who got their first dose over the weekend.

First Lady Brittany Beshear announced the launch of the Western Kentucky Toy Drive, saying Kentuckians from anywhere in the state can donate to that effort to help make sure that families who were impacted by the tornados can have presents for their children this Christmas.
