Chief justice recommends creation of new circuit court division in Christian, Trigg counties

The Kentucky General Assembly will be tasked with legislative and judicial redistricting in 2022 and Kentucky Supreme Court Chief Justice John Minton is recommending the creation of a new circuit judge position in Christian and Trigg counties.

In his letter to House and Senate leaders Friday, Justice Minton certifies to the General Assembly the need for one additional circuit court division in the 3rd Judicial Circuit, which is solely in Christian County.

There are currently three circuit court divisions in Christian County, including the family court.

He also certifies the need for an additional circuit court division in the 56th Judicial Circuit which includes Caldwell, Livingston, Lyon and Trigg counties. There is currently only one circuit division in those counties and it often makes for a long and crowded docket.

Several judicial divisions would also be eliminated across the state, including a district division in Hopkins County, and Chief Justice Minton says the rearranging is necessary to address jurisdictions with overburdened workloads.
