Proclamation declares December as Human Rights Month

December is Human Rights Month and a proclamation was read by City of Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch and Christian County Judge-Executive Steve Tribble Tuesday declaring it so.

Mayor Lynch says in 1948, world leaders gathered at the United Nations General Assembly and adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, affirming all people’s inherent dignity and inalienable rights.

He says they encourage all residents to study and promote the idea that each person is entitled to fundamental human rights.

The Hopkinsville Christian County Human Rights Commission is responsible for helping people navigate the process of filing a discrimination complaint and act as a conciliator. They join together with Human Rights offices around the globe and with the United Nations in celebrating December as Human Rights Month.

In January of 2022, the Human Rights Commission will launch Social Reading Room, a community book club to read books that enhance the mission of HRC and its City of Compassion committee.
