Former HHS band director Seth Peveler set to accept plea deal

Former Hopkinsville High School Band Director Seth Peveler is set to accept a plea deal in the case where he is facing multiple charges of rape.

Peveler appeared virtually before special Judge James Jameson alongside defense attorney Sands Chewning, who informed the court that special prosecutor Dennis Foust had requested the plea be entered in Christian County, so they were looking for a date that worked for the judge.

The plea date was set for December 21 at 3 p.m., with a final sentencing date to be set at that time, likely for sometime in the spring.

No details about the potential plea were discussed during the pretrial hearing. Peveler had been set to go to trial on January 5 if a resolution had not been reached before then.

Seth Peveler is accused of having multiple sexual encounters with students at his home and at the school in 2017 and 2018. He is charged with four counts of third-degree rape, four counts of third-degree sodomy and one count of unlawful transaction with a minor. The indictments note he was in a position of authority or special trust over his alleged victims.

His then wife, former Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Hannah Peveler, is accused of attempting to convince a witness to avoid testifying in an official court proceeding with intent to influence the outcome in the potential case. A trial date has not yet been set in her proceedings.
