Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear gave an update on the COVID-19 pandemic in the state Monday afternoon, telling people to not forget those tried-and-true health and safety measures.
Governor Beshear says they are still awaiting more information, just like everyone else, but he warned everyone to not get caught up in the omicron variant, as the delta variant is still widely prevalent in the state, which we know is dangerous.
He says Kentucky has experienced increases in cases, which could be contributed to a lot of things, including pandemic fatigued and holiday gatherings.
Governor Beshear urged people to remain safe this holiday season, encouraging people to get vaccinated to help keep yourself and others from becoming horribly sick from COVID-19, no matter the variant.
He says that waning immunity, whether vaccinated or not, is very real, so he urged those who have been vaccinated six months or so ago to get their booster shot. There were 198 COVID deaths in the Commonwealth over the weekend.
Breaking down the weekend numbers, there were 2,350 new cases Saturday, along with 67 deaths, there 1,194 cases on Sunday, with 68 deaths and the Monday saw 1,347 cases and 63 deaths. The positivity rate is at 9.13 percent and hospitalizations have also been on the incline.
