Trial had been set to begin Tuesday morning for Larayna Manning, the woman charged with murder for the October, 2020 shooting death of Calvin “Cue” Taylor at his home on North Kentucky Avenue, but it was postponed again to allow for additional evidence testing.
Taylor was duct-taped at the time of the robbery and shooting and Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling said during a hearing Monday morning that a female’s DNA has been located on the tape and the crime lab that has the evidence needs time to compare it with a sample of Manning’s DNA.
Defense attorney Jason Pfeil opposed delaying the trial anymore, noting she’s been in jail or over a year.
Judge Andrew Self said he was hesitant to go to trial with the DNA evidence not tested, noting the results could be very important to both sides.
The parties returned to court several hours later in the afternoon and the judge ultimately ruled in favor of the Commonwealth, canceling the trial and scheduling another preliminary hearing for February 2, when there will hopefully be preliminary results.
The judge also declined to release Manning pending trial, as requested by Pfeil.
