Woman convicted of Oak Grove assault gets probation

Probation was granted Wednesday morning in Christian Circuit Court for a woman who pled guilty to felony assault in connection with an incident last December in Oak Grove.

Twenty-nine-year-old Katrina Grandberry of Clarksville pleaded guilty to first-degree assault under extreme emotional disturbance earlier this year and said during formal sentencing that she while she believes she acted in self-defense on December 14 of last year when she stabbed and assaulted a woman—she wishes she would have handled the situation differently.

While the plea deal leaves the decision on whether to probate the five-year sentence up to the judge, Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Bolen disputed Grandberry’s details while reaffirming the commonwealth’s neutral stand.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling joined the proceedings and says while the decision on probation was left up to the court, that shouldn’t automatically infer the commonwealth is neutral if new information emerges.

Judge John Atkins probated the five-year sentence, placing Grandberry under the supervision of probation and parole, saying he read the original plea agreement to say the commonwealth is neutral.

Grandberry and her victim were both hospitalized for injuries following the incident that was investigated by the Oak Grove Police Department.
