The Philadelphia Phillies’ Bryce Harper and Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels are making history with their Most Valuable Player Awards. It’s the first time since 1987 both MVPs came from non-playoff teams, and just the fourth time overall since the BBWAA began voting in 1931. Harper won NL MVP honors for the second time in his career. Ohtani earned AL MVP honors for the first time.
The hot stove season might cool down this winter. MLB commissioner Rob Manfred indicated Thursday a lockout could be coming once the collective bargaining agreement expires on December 1st. Manfred added that a repeat of the 1994 work stoppage would not be good for anyone involved. ESPN is reporting that the league and the MLB Players Association have been meeting often about a potential new CBA, but the two sides are not close to a new agreement.
