HCC partnering with H&R Agri-Power in apprenticeship program

Hopkinsville Community College is celebrating National Apprenticeship Week by announcing its newest partnership with H&R Agri-Power, which has established a new Agriculture Business apprenticeship with HCC’s program, Kentucky Apprenticeship.

A news release says H&R Agri-Power hired 19-year old Jeremy Leek as a technical sales representative apprentice at their Hopkinsville location. Leek attends classes in HCC’s agriculture program and works with a mentor on-the-job.

Jack Kenady is Leek’s on-the-job mentor and H&R Agri-Power’s parts manager and says, “Jeremy has been a pleasure to have on our team, his work ethic and motivation have been an added bonus during our busy season. I also look forward to watching him continue to learn and grown in the agriculture field with us at H&R Agri-Power.”

HCC President Dr. Alissa Young, expressed her excitement about the new program saying, “Hopkinsville Community College is the community’s college. We exist to serve our community, and our community needs workforce. We are delighted to be able to connect our students with our community and meet a very real need.”

KCTCS rolled out the new apprenticeship initiative at all 16 colleges across the state in November of 2019. Each college hired an apprenticeship coordinator to help companies complete the steps to participate in state-registered apprenticeships with their local college providing technical education. HCC currently has three registered apprenticeship programs in agriculture, diesel technology and computerized machining & manufacturing.
