College Football

Virginia Tech announced today it has parted ways with head coach Justin Fuente. JC Price will serve as the interim coach for the remainder of the 2021 season.
Fuente was 43-31 in six seasons as head coach of the Hokies. Tech was 5-5 overall and 3-3 in the ACC under Fuente this season. Before serving as Hokies head coach, the former Murray State quarterback was 26-23 in four seasons as head coach at the University of Memphis.

College Basketball

The grandson of Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski-Michael Savarino-and freshman Paolo Banchero face DWI charges after being arrested early Sunday morning. The Raleigh News and Observer reports the two players will make court appearances early next month. The status of the players for tonight’s game with Gardner-Webb has not been announced.

MLB

Multiple reports indicate right hander Noah Syndergaard and the Los Angeles Angels have agreed to a one-year, $21 million deal, pending a physical. Syndergaard has spent the first seven years of his career with the New York Mets.

The dispute over the use of the name Cleveland Guardians for the 2022 season has been resolved. A legal spat took place after the Cleveland Indians announced plans to use the name beginning next year by a roller derby team of the same name. The two sides reached agreement today after a lawsuit had been filed by the roller derby team.
