It was a night of recognitions and awards at the Tuesday meeting of the Hopkinsville City Council.
The Hopkinsville Fire Department recognized several firefighters, including retiring Fire Captain Bill Nightingale, who has served on the department for 20 years—Fire Chief Steve Futrell says the citizens of Hopkinsville were always in good hands when Captain Nightingale was on call, and they will dearly miss him.
Newly promoted HFD Lieutenants Kyle Graves and Payton Rogers, along with newly promoted Captain Andrew Watts were sworn-in to those positions and pinned.
The Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department was recently recognized as the Kentucky Recreation and Parks Society Department of the Year, while the Sportsplex received the Outstanding Facility Award. Superintendent Tab Brockman says those awards really were the result of phenomenal teamwork.
City Council approved an ordinance on second-reading that allows them to enter into a franchise agreement with OpenFiber Kentucky Company, LLC granting a ten year, non-exclusive franchise for telecommunication system within the city limits of Hopkinsville.
