It was a beautiful morning in downtown Hopkinsville Saturday, as citizens, organizations and veterans took part in the annual Veterans’ Day Honor Parade.
There were saluters from numerous schools present, waving flags and cheering on veterans as they marched the parade route to the Christian County Justice Center, where there was a ceremony honoring their sacrifice and service. Mayor Wendell Lynch says this country has a long history of those who have been willing to fight in the name of freedom for their fellow man.
County Judge-Executive Steve Tribble urged everyone to celebrate in some way, whether by thanking a veteran or just reflecting on what they have done for this country, so their actions are always remembered.
Veterans of Foreign War Post 1913 Chaplain Richard Cooper led the crowd in prayer, saying that although the trails and battles are changing constantly, those who step up to face them are the same in their bravery and strength.
Hopkinsville High School’s JROTC program took home the Mayor’s JROTC Challenge this year, while Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School once again claimed the Sidewalk Saluters Challenge trophy, though Indian Hills Elementary and Sinking Fork Elementary were close behind, with only one saluter less than the winners.
