The Trigg County Public School System is celebrating being awarded $10 million in grant funding to help renovate the vocational school and benefit students.
Governor Andy Beshear helped present the check Thursday afternoon at the facility, which was built in 1972 and is long overdue for an update—he says the state-of-the-art educational center it will be will help shape the future of students, Trigg County and Kentucky as a whole.
Superintendent Bill Thorpe says it will allow them to provide new pathways and opportunities to their students, to help them achieve success long into the future.
Freshman Alex Smith says she’s looking forward to pursuing her education in the new facility—with the hope it will completed in approximately two years—and she knows it will be a great asset to students.
There were multiple speakers at the ceremony, including numerous students will learn and grow in the newly renovated space, local legislators, teachers, administrators and more. With provisions in House Bill 556 this year, the Kentucky General Assembly appropriated $75 million for the current fiscal year to the School Facilities Construction Commission to help support vocational initiatives and education centers throughout the commonwealth and this $10 million was won through a competitive grant process.
