It was a return to form Friday afternoon, as numerous ghosts and goblins took over downtown Hopkinsville for trick-or-treating.
Last year’s event was a drive-thru one due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so parents and officials both were excited to return downtown along Main Street, even in spite of the rainy conditions. Numerous families seeking Halloween goodies took to downtown, and Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman says they were thrilled with the turnout.
Downtown merchants lined Main Street to hand out candy and speak with kids—many groups were dressed in costume as part of a friendly costume competition among agencies. Brockman says this event is not only about the candy and the costumes, but about getting back to normal after so much was changed last year.
The light drizzle couldn’t keep the spirit of Halloween and those who love to celebrate it home. The City of Hopkinsville doesn’t set residential trick-or-treating guidelines, so citizens are advised to be on the lookout for trick-or-treaters throughout the weekend, as Halloween itself falls on Sunday.
