After just over three months on the run, convicted murderer James Gentry is back in custody.
Gentry was arrested Thursday afternoon by the U.S. Marshals and lodged in the San Diego, California jail, according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department website.
He is being held as a fugitive without bond.
As previously reported, the 46-year old Gentry was out on bond in July when he cut off his ankle monitor and fled Hopkinsville while his trial was ongoing in Trigg County for the November 27, 2018, killing of Keith Joey Hayes.
The jury ultimately found him guilty of murder and robbery in his absence and sentenced him to life in prison and he won’t be eligible for parole for 25 years.
He will remain in the California jail until the extradition process is completed for a return to Kentucky.
