Kentucky’s COVID-19 numbers continue to trend in the right direction.
Giving a Team Kentucky update, Governor Andy Beshear said COVID cases, hospitalizations as well as the number of people in the ICU and on a ventilator are all down. The governor adds that COVID-19 booster shots are now “the most critical thing,” aside from getting more people vaccinated, and says they’re hopeful Pfizer vaccine will soon be approved for children between the ages of five and 11.
The CDC confirmed some of the COVID vaccine data in Kentucky was counted twice—the correction will lower Kentucky’s vaccination numbers from 2.7 million to 2.5 million, or 56 percent of the population.
There were 1,711 new COVID-19 cases reported Thursday, along with 33 deaths, bringing the death toll in the Commonwealth up to 9,717. The positivity rate continues to fall, now at 5.17 percent, after being 5.56 the day before.
