Christian County is among several other counties that will begin transitioning all drivers licensing services to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet in November.
According to a news release, seven more Kentucky counties will make the transition in November, including Christian, Allen, Butler, Edmonson, Nicholas, Perry and Powell counties. The traditional issuance system of licenses and permits initiated at the Office of Circuit Court Clerk in each county is being phased out. It is being replaced by a network of KYTC Driver Licensing Regional Offices located across the state. Twenty regional offices have been opened statewide to date, with more to come.
The hope is to have the transitioning of all drivers licensing offices in the state completed by July of 2022.
Residents of counties making the transition may renew or apply for a REAL ID or new standard card version of driver license, learner permit, commercial driver license or ID card at any KYTC Driver Licensing Regional Office.
The closest regional office to Christian County is currently in Madisonville. According to Christian County Circuit Court Clerk Paige Parker, Christian County is set to have a regional office open in the old First City Bank building in downtown Hopkinsville on the corner of East Ninth Street and Main by November 29.
