Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear made several stops in western Kentucky Wednesday, including to the Christian County Public School System to present them with a check for $10 million in grant funding.
The funding comes as a part of the governor’s Better Kentucky Plan, which included $75 million to be dedicated to upgrading vocational education centers—the $10 million awarded to CCPS will go towards the construction of the consolidated high school, which includes the Gateway Academy to Innovation and Technology. Governor Beshear says it was a highly competitive grant, and the fact CCPS was chosen shows that their plan puts students and education first.
School Board Chair Tom Bell says that grant money comes with a lot of trust, and they intend to put it to good use by providing a state-of-the-art facility and education for students.
Superintendent Chris Bentzel say he and his team are grateful for all the support they’ve received, from the local to the state level, and the future is bright as they strive to offer students an education that goes above and beyond anything currently offered in the state of Kentucky.
Along with that funding being awarded, Governor Beshear also announced that Christian Fiscal Court will receive $500,000 to go towards the construction of a single-span bridge on Davis Road in north Christian. He says the existing bridge was closed this year due to safety concerns, and he’s hopeful this funding will get that back open soon to benefit those who live in that area.
The Gateway Academy to Innovation and Technology currently offers more than three dozen educational programs. When the new building is complete, the program will add even more programs like, cinematography and firefighting.
