Victims of domestic violence remembered at Sanctuary, Inc. ceremony

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Sanctuary, Inc. remembered those who have lost their lives to domestic violence and honored their staff at a lotus release ceremony Wednesday afternoon.

Sanctuary staff, who dedicated their lives to helping victims of abuse and assault, met at Little River by the public library in Hopkinsville to release the flowers, with Executive Director Heather Lancaster saying they see the results of that violence every day, and they’re driven to create a world where things like this are prevented.

She says they say the names of those victims who paid the highest cost so they are never forgotten and their stories are told.

A list of names of those who have lost their lives to domestic violence was read as a lotus flower for each sent to float downstream in Little River. A moment of silence was held in the memory of those who went before and in honor of those still struggling. Sanctuary, Inc. supports victim in the nine county Pennyrile region.
