Mayor talks vaccine incentive program, decrease in COVID numbers

Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch says things are looking up for the community in the way of COVID-19 as they look towards the future.

Appearing on WHOP Friday, Mayor Lynch says the number of new cases in the county has been trending downward in recent weeks and they’re hopeful that will keep going—in the meantime, he does remind people to do what they need to keep themselves and others healthy.

He says the COVID-19 vaccine incentive program has had some success, with roughly 200 people taking part in it so far—that program continues through the month of October, giving people a chance to earn $100 for becoming fully vaccinated and enter into a chance to win $1,000.

With vaccination rates up and COVID cases trending downward, the mayor is hopeful that more people will sign up for the Hopkinsville Diplomat program, which focuses on participants the opportunity to learn how to make municipal government work for them, gain knowledge of local municipal government, and have the opportunity to support their community through service, promotion, and volunteerism.

He says to keep an eye out for upcoming information about that program.
