Hopkinsville City Council approved a municipal order that contained agreements between the City of Hopkinsville and CSX that closes some railroad crossings in the city.
The agreement paves the way for improvements at six crossings in the city and the permanent road closure of four streets—improvements would include proper safety and warning devices at the crossings at Second Street, Fourth Street, Seventh Street, Tenth Street, Thirteenth Street and Fourteenth Street, while closing Fifth, Sixth Eleventh and Twelfth Streets crossings.
The agreement was approved unanimously. As part of the incentive, CSX has agreed to pay the city $400,000 for the crossing closures, and changes the language of the deed of the L&N Depot at the East Ninth Street crossing, removing the language that prohibited commercial business in the depot.
Community Development Services Director Steve Bourne told council they have applied for a grant that would help them complete phase two of the Greenway System and possibly move into phase three.
Mayor Wendell Lynch and council took a moment to remember their colleague, former councilman Jimmy Dossett who passed away, saying he was a true leader in the community.
In other action, council approved a municipal order approving the purchase of ten Flock Safety cameras not to exceed cost of $30,000.
