Longtime city councilman, community advocate Jimmy Dossett, passes away

Longtime Hopkinsville City Council member and community advocate Jimmy Dossett has passed away.

Dossett served on city council for numerous years, but on top of that, served on multiple community agencies and boards passionately. That includes a long history with the Trail of Tears Native American Pow Wow, which Dossett championed for often. In 2019, Dossett told WHOP News that the Pow Wow was about remembering your heritage and they were always happy to bring the event to the community.

While running for re-election in 2020, Dossett was staunchly against raising taxes, saying imposing that on citizens should always be a last resort.

Dossett was first elected to Hopkinsville City Council in 2009, where he served the citizens of Ward 10 until 2020. Dossett was a bus monitor for Christian County Public Schools and a member of First United Methodist Church.  He was a member of Jaycees, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Vaperz Car Club, and Boy Scouts of America Troop 68.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Lamb Funeral Home with burial to follow in Green Hill Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
