The South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council has announced that the Christian County site that American Foods Group had been looking to build a beef processing plant on has been eliminated from their consideration.
That’s according to a statement from Executive Director Carter Hendricks, which states the elimination comes at the result of the company’s ongoing analysis, and they have decided to pursue other options due to logistical consideration and the availability of commodity. He says the EDC encouraged them to consider other sites in Kentucky, saying the values of the company and its leaders show the types of a values and investments that would benefit the state.
Hendricks says the EDC remains committed to growing the local economy through job and wage creation as well as new capital investment.
The beef processing plant was highly contested in Christian County, particularly in Pembroke, which is located near the John Rivers Road Commerce Park #2 site where the 500,000 square foot plant could have potentially located. Citizens had expressed concerns at a public forum about possible odors, waste from the facility, impacts on housing market values, possible increases in crime and more but supporters had contended that the facility would have created 1,300 jobs locally.
