Pennyroyal Center receives $4.8 million grant to improve, expand mental health services locally

The Pennyroyal Center has received a two-year, $4.8 million grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration through the Community Mental Health Centers Grant Program.

According to a news release, there were $825 million in competitive grants awarded nationwide, and with the funds, the center intends to improve accessibility to outpatient treatment and school-based treatment services, expand the Therapeutic Rehabilitation Program into a new county, increase recovery housing options, and sustain Regional Crisis and Emergency Services.

The funding will also allow for the implementation of two new programs, including a Recovery Community Center, which is a peer-operated center that serves as a local resource of community-based recovery supports. The second is a Regional Quick Response team that provides rapid response when treating individuals for substance-related overdoses in local hospitals.

Executive Director Ashley Felts says, “The COVID pandemic has had a significant impact on individuals’ mental health and overall well-being. This funding will allow for expansion of services to ensure accessibility of Mental Health and Substance Use treatment and recovery services as we continue to move forward.”
