Deputies in Lyon County arrested a Paducah man Monday after he allegedly attempted to sexually assault a woman who was able to get away and find help.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says the deaf and mute woman went to the state road garage on KY 373 and sought assistance, relaying that a man had tried to rape her.
A vehicle description was given to local and state law enforcement and Eddyville police stopped the vehicle and detained both occupants. The victim was able to identify 33-year old Mattew Turnbow of Paducah as the perpetrator and he was arrested and charged with first-degree sexual abuse, first-degree strangulation and fourth-degree assault.
Police say Turnbow was out of jail on an ankle monitor from Carlisle County, where is under indictment for manslaughter.
He was also charged with possession of methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia and served with a Lyon County warrant for harassing communications.
