Arraignment held for woman accused of assaulting husband with knife

Arraignment was held Wednesday morning in Christian Circuit Court for a Hopkinsville woman who was arrested earlier this month following a stabbing incident on Hipkins Street.

Public Defender Olivia Adams entered a not guilty plea in front of Judge John Atkins on behalf of 40-year-old Maria Zivotin of Hopkinsville, who’s charged with second-degree assault (domestic violence).

Hopkinsville police were called to the Jennie Stuart Medical Center emergency room regarding a stabbing on September 1 and made contact with the victim, 41-year-old James Fritz of Hopkinsville.

He told police he and Zivotin, who is his wife, had been in an argument when she allegedly came at him with a knife in her hand.

Fritz said he put his leg up in a defensive manner to keep his wife off of him and that’s when she allegedly used the knife to cut him across the calf, causing injuries that required several stitches.

Her next court appearance was scheduled for October 13.
