Smith running for Christian County jailer in ’22

Hopkinsville Police Department Captain Adam Smith is making it official—he’ll run for Christian County Jailer in 2022.

The Republican has been at HPD for nearly 12 years and believes he is well-qualified to step in and lead the jail.

Smith says he’ll be focused on reducing recidivism and operating a safe and secure facility.

He wants to re-establish a contract to house federal inmates to improve the jail’s financial situation and believes he can make it happen.

Smith is the first candidate to officially announce a candidacy, though Jailer Brad Hewell said he was likely to run when he was appointed to the post following the retirement of former Jailer Brad Boyd.
