Fiscal Court approves tax rate, accepts grant for utility assistance program

Christian Fiscal Court approved final reading of an ordinance Tuesday morning slightly decreasing property tax rates and accepted grant money to help locals who are delinquent on utility bills.

The property tax rate will drop by one tenth of a penny to 18.6 cents per $100 of assessed value, meaning the owner of a $100,000 home would pay a dollar less if the assessed valuation of their property hasn’t gone up in the last year.

Magistrates approved a grant agreement accepting $200,000 that Amy Frogue with the PADD office says will allow residents who are delinquent on utility bills to soon apply for assistance at the PACS office.

Fiscal court accepted a $38,490 bid from Mastercraft to purchase a 38-foot trailer to serve as a new mobile command post and Deputy Emergency Management Director Cecelia Cloos says grant money has also been obtained for equipment and other necessary items to make it functional.

In other action, magistrates approved the county’s uniform incentive package for the Martinrea expansion project, meaning they’ll be reimbursed 90 percent of revenues from the increase in property tax assessment over the next 15 years.
