Ribbon signed in memory of those who have fought cancer as Relay For Life happens Friday

While the Christian County Relay For Life is this coming Friday, the festivities officially got underway Tuesday afternoon with a new ribbon signing event.

It took place at the Christian County Justice Center, where attendees where able to sign a large, purple ribbon with the names of those who have fought, or passed away, due to cancer.  Relay organizer Pam Futrell says this event is all about honoring the survivors and remembering those who have passed.

She says there’s still time to sign-up to participate in Relay, which is set to take place at the Planters’ Bank-Jennie Stuart Hopkinsville Sportsplex this Friday, kicking off at 5 p.m.

Christian County Judge Executive Steve Tribble and City Administrative Office Troy Body read a proclamation declaring September 14 as Relay For Life Day, which Tribble saying it’s their hope to help fund research that could one day find a cure for all cancers.

Local teams and individuals have already raised roughly $70,000 toward their $100,000 goal for the American Cancer Society, and they’re hopeful they can raise the rest of it or maybe even more on Friday.
