Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch appeared on WHOP Friday morning to urge people to get vaccinated if they can and discussed the City’s new incentive program.
Mayor Lynch cast the tie-breaking ‘yes’ vote at the last meeting of the Hopkinsville City Council that passed the COVID-19 vaccine incentive program that would give $100 to the next 1,000 Hopkinsville residents who get the shot, along with the chance for ten people to win $1,000, with the mayor saying they’re focused on getting the local vaccination rate up.
He says the program does not currently include those who have already been vaccinated against the virus, only those who get the shot between September 13 and October 31.
Mayor Lynch urged everyone to take a quiet moment sometime this weekend to remember those who died during the September 11, 2001 attacks on America, as Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of the day the Twin Towers fell.
The mayor urged everyone to do what they feel they need to, to stay healthy during the current times, whether that be getting the vaccine or continuing to wear masks while indoors.
