NCAA announces changes to Women’s College World Series beginning next year

The NCAA Championships Oversight Committee announced the approval of a new scheduling format for the Women’s College World Series that will begin with the 2022 edition in Oklahoma City, OK. Two major changes were made with teams who lose on Day 1 of the event no longer being required to play a doubleheader the following day. The second major change is that there will be a day off in between the semifinals and the first game of the Championship Series.

Previously, the event was conducted over a seven-day period, which limited schedule flexibility. The Division I Softball Committee believes expanding the event two additional days will help enhance the championship for all those involved.
