Hopkins Co. man arrested following stand-off with law enforcement on I-24

A Hopkins County man is facing wanton endangerment charges following a stand-off situation on I-24 Wednesday night.

According to a news release from Kentucky State Police, troopers responded to the area of the 51 mile marker of I-24 near the Lyon-Caldwell County line for reports of a man walking down the interstate with a flashlight.  Upon arrival, contact was made with 26-year-old Dean Adornato of Nebo, who reportedly was holding a handgun.

As other law enforcement agencies arrived on scene, Adornato allegedly fired the handgun multiple times into the air and ground.  After over an hour speaking with law enforcement, he was taken into custody without further incident.  No one was injured in the incident.

Adornato was charged with three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.  Kentucky State Police was assisted on scene by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Eddyville Police Department, Trigg County Sheriff’s Office, Lyon County Highway Department, and Lyon County EMS.

Both lanes of I-24 in the area were shut down for several hours during the stand-off.
