Elkton woman served with attempted murder indictment

A Todd County grand jury indictment warrant for attempted murder was served Friday morning against an Elkton woman who is accused of intentionally ramming a motorcycle with her car last month.

The indictment alleges that on August 6, 26-year-old Barbara Helton of Elkton screamed that she was going to kill Jordan Hughes before ramming his motorcycle with her sportscar at a high rate of speed at the intersection of Allensville Road and Old Allensville Road.

Hughes sustained serious injuries in the incident that required him to be taken to an area hospital.

Helton is charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment, third-degree terroristic threatening and reckless driving.

She was lodged in the Todd County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

The Todd County Sheriff’s Office investigated the incident and made the arrest.
