Titans make roster cuts, former Titan Butler reportedly to retire

The Tennessee Titans trimmed their roster down to 53 Tuesday. The most notable cut was wide receiver Dez Fitzpatrick. Tennessee traded up into the fourth round of this year’s draft to pick Fitzpatrick out of Louisville. The Titans open the season hosting the Arizona Cardinals on September 12th.

The Arizona Cardinals placed cornerback Malcolm Butler on the reserve/retired list as the 31-year-old deals with a “personal situation.” Butler signed a one-year contract with the Cardinals back in March and had been practicing and playing through the preseason with no indication that he was planning to quit. Butler signed with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2014 before spending the last three seasons with the Tennessee Titans. Butler is best known for his game-saving interception of Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson during the closing seconds of Super Bowl 49.
