A man was charged with felony assault of a police officer following an arrest Thursday night in downtown Hopkinsville.
A Hopkinsville police officer got out to check on a man lying near the roadway at East Ninth and South Campbell Street about 10 p.m. and the report says 34-year-old Miles Smith of Hopkinsville smelled of alcohol and was manifestly under the influence.
He allegedly head-butted the arresting officer as he was being placed into the cruiser.
Smith is charged with third-degree assault of an officer and public intoxication.
