Elected officials speak at Country Ham Breakfast

State and federal elected officials spoke at the annual Kentucky Farm Bureau Country Ham Breakfast Thursday morning at the Kentucky State Fair.

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell noted that it’s because of effective and safe vaccines that the Kentucky State Fair was able to return with crowds this year.

Senator Rand Paul praised farmers, saying their hard work combined with American capitalism has given the country an abundance of goods.

Kentucky Ag. Commissioner Ryan Quarles, rumored to be a Republican candidate for governor in 2023, criticized Governor Andy Beshear for not being at the breakfast and praised farmers for not slowing down during the pandemic.

Central Bank joined Kelly and Joe Craft to have the winning bid of $4.8 million for the grand champion ham. That record-breaking amount will be dispersed to charities throughout the commonwealth.
