Kentucky gained the third highest ever amount of new COVID-19 cases in a single-day since the pandemic began Wednesday, and there was a spike in related deaths.
Governor Andy Beshear reported 4,849 COVID-19 cases, along with a record high positivity rate of 13.16 percent—he says more children than ever are getting sick with the virus, and not enough people are getting vaccinated to help keep them safe.
He urged everyone to do their part to stop the critical spread of coronavirus in the state, reporting that 65 more Kentuckians have died due to the virus.
All 120 Kentucky counties are now listed as ‘red’ on the state incidence rate map. There are currently 2,074 individuals in the hospital with COVID-19, 549 in the ICU and 338 on a ventilator, which the governor says could mean that hospitals will soon be completely overwhelmed trying to take care of those patients and the ones they would usually have at the same time.
