Pembroke man arrested for felony assault

A Pembroke man was arrested for felony assault Saturday evening following an incident on Pardue Lane in Hopkinsville.

An arrest citation from Hopkinsville police for 35-year-old Dustin Austin of Pembroke says he went to a home in the 300 block of Pardue to confront a man about alleged threats made to his son.

Video surveillance reportedly captured Austin using a baseball bat to break an outdoor lamp and he then used the bat to push the 43-year-old male resident against an outside wall, striking him in the head with the bat in the process.

Austin was found at a Kenwood Drive home and reportedly told police he took the bat as protection out of fear he’d be shot and said he struck the light with a bat to show he “meant business.”

He’s charged with second-degree assault and third-degree criminal mischief.
