The COVID surge continues to gain steam in Hopkins County.
Health department officials there say they are seeing 60 to 100 new cases per day and they’re having a difficult time keeping up with inputting their numbers into the state system.
They say hospitals and urgent cares in Hopkins County are starting to struggle with testing and wait times for care.
There are many infants, children, and young to middle-aged adults positive at this time, according to the Hopkins County Health Department, which says there have been young and middle-aged adults with minor or no health problems that have died or been on ventilators.
Officials continue to plead with the public to get vaccinated, saying they expect a large peak in cases over the next month and they fear it will overwhelm the healthcare system.
