Ky. reports 4,009 new COVID-19 cases

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear reported the tenth highest day of new COVID-19 cases in the history of the pandemic Friday at 4,009.

That jump in numbers is a continuing trend of escalation in the state, with the positivity rate once again increasing, now at 11.83 percent. Governor Beshear calls it alarming, saying just last month they were reporting only about 200 cases a day.

He urged people, regardless of vaccination status, to wear a facial covering while indoors in public spaces.

The governor says if you’re still having hesitancy about getting the vaccine, now is the time to reconsider—most of the state is listed as ‘red’ on the state incidence rate and he says hospitalizations are also on the rise.

There were 12 newly reported deaths Friday, putting the overall death toll since the pandemic began in the state at 7,426.
