The Pennyrile Area Development District Board of Directors learned more about the You Decide Kentucky initiative at Monday’s meeting, which is focused on restructuring the tax code in the state.
South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council Executive Director Carter Hendricks is on the board for You Decide Ky. and says the initiative is set on engaging and educating people and organizations across the Commonwealth to achieve a shared goal of giving authority to the General Assembly to enable revenue-raising options at the county and municipal level.
Hendricks says it could also come with tax reform involving the state income tax, which he says puts Kentucky at a disadvantage with other states in multiple ways.
He says this is likely going to be a long conversation that doesn’t result in change immediately, as it will have to voted on by the people after the General Assembly decided to take it up.
Hendricks says it would let local governments have more control over revenue streams and what tax could or could not be implemented.
More information and input about the initiative and its goals can be found on youdecideky.com, where a list of board members can be found, along with a chance to donate to the effort.
