Jaylynn Cheatham, the man charged in connection with shooting two men at a gas station on East Ninth Street, was arraigned in Christian Circuit Court Monday morning on new charges.
Cheatham was recently indicted for second-degree strangulation, first-degree strangulation, second-degree assault, fourth-degree assault and first-degree wanton endangerment in relation to two unrelated incidents in May where he allegedly assaulted two female victims, causing serious injuries and he was arraigned on those charges Monday.
Judge Andrew Self accepted a not guilty plea on his behalf and defense attorney David Rye requested a continuance to allow him more time to go over evidence in the cases and possibly file a bond motion.
A pretrial hearing is set for August 23. Cheatham is already facing charges of two counts of first-degree assault, four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and attempted murder.
As previously reported, Hopkinsville police responded to the gas station on the evening of March 28 and found 21-year old Darrius Quarles of Hopkinsville with gunshot wounds and 38-year old Bryan Jones of Cadiz later arrived at Jennie Stuart Medical Center with a gunshot wound. Quarles would later be transferred to a Nashville hospital for treatment.
