The Christian County Animal Shelter is reaching max capacity on animals and officials there are asking for the public’s help.
Animal Shelter Director Irene Grace says not only are they out of places to put cats and kittens, available space is running low for dogs and puppies—she says if you were thinking about adopting a new animal into your life, now would be the perfect time to do so. She also asks people to remember they are accepting new animals by appointment only, though they are open for adoptions Tuesday through Saturday with no appointment needed.
She says because of the influx of animals, they are in need of donations—specifically kitten food and cat litter—and they could use help tending to the cats that are awaiting adoption at PetSmart.
The shelter also has a Get ‘Em Done program that focuses on getting animals spayed or neutered before leaving the shelter to hopefully cut down on overpopulation, with Grace urging everyone to get their own pets spayed or neutered.
Grace also reminds every one that during hot temperatures, outside animals need access to shade and fresh water at all times, and a dog house does not count as shade, as they can reach dangerous temperatures during the heat of the day.
