Sharpe Street shooting victim dies, suspect arrested

Arraignment is scheduled for Friday morning in Christian District Court for the man accused in a fatal shooting from late Wednesday night on Sharpe Street.

Hopkinsville police arrested 36-year-old Mory Burse of Hopkinsville Thursday afternoon on an arrest warrant for murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

It alleges Burse used a 9 mm handgun to shoot 48-year-old Devon Kendrick of Hopkinsville multiple times in the torso and arms just before midnight Wednesday at a location behind the East Ninth Street Dollar General on Sharpe Street.

Kendrick was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, where he died from his injuries several hours later.

Burse is lodged in the Christian County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
